Third Grade Teachers
Third Grade Department Goals
Third Grade at Barkley Bridge Elementary is an exciting and important year. Students begin to make the shift from “learning to read” to “reading to learn,” and they become more independent, confident thinkers. Our goal is to support that growth every step of the way—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our third grade goals include:
-
Strengthening Reading Comprehension and Fluency
Students dive into a variety of texts, building the skills needed to understand, analyze, and enjoy what they read. -
Expanding Writing Skills
We focus on organizing ideas clearly and using correct grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure in narratives, informational writing, and opinion pieces. -
Mastering Key Math Concepts
Students work with multiplication and division, place value, fractions, measurement, and word problems—all while building strong number sense. -
Becoming Independent Learners
Third graders take more ownership of their work, manage time and materials more effectively, and develop critical thinking and study skills. -
Developing Positive Peer Relationships
Through group work, classroom discussions, and daily interactions, students practice respect, cooperation, and empathy.
We strive to create a supportive, engaging classroom where students feel challenged, encouraged, and celebrated. Third grade is a big step—and we’re excited to take it with them!
